Billy Ray Cyrus as "Doc" a must see television show with a message

I must admit, when I first happened upon the television show "Doc" on PAX Network a few years ago it didn't stir me. First of all, I had visions of "Little House on the Prairie", a show in the genre of the "Walton's" which reminded me of a preachy do-gooder tale that didn't have any action and the same tired message.
Another thing working against "Doc" for me was Billy Ray Cyrus. Here was a minimally talented Country Music singer that was obviously capitalizing on his overplayed hit "Achy Breaky Heart" with no acting credentials.
Much to our surprise we were riveted to this show and have become big fans ever since. First of all, the premise intrigued us. A small town country doctor from Montana goes to New York to practice medicine. Talk about culture shock. Knowing the difference in attitude between small town, laid back country folk and the hustle and bustle insensitivity of the stereotyped New Yorker we wanted to see how they would integrate.
What we found surprised us. First of all, the cast of characters was truly well developed.
Dr. Clint Cassidy - Billy Ray Cyrus - The country bumpkin doctor from Montana.
Nurse Nancy Nichols - Andrea Robinson - New York born and bred nurse with attitude and a soft spot for the Doc.
Dr. Oliver Crane - Ron Lea - A typical stereotyped New York doctor with no patient empathy and a bitter resentment to Doc's intrusion into his otherwise black and white world.
Ms. Donna DeWitt - Ruth Marshall - A perky Administrator with the gargantuan task of balancing HMO bureaucracy with patient care.
Tippy Williams - Paula Boudreau - Receptionist extraordinaire, whose seemingly airhead off the wall comments have meaning and insight.
Dr. Derek Hebert - Derek McGrath - Sometimes bumbling but always engaging staff doctor that often brings Doc's altruistic attitude back to earth.
Officer Nate Jackson - Richard Leacock - One of New York's finest that shows that law enforcement officers are human but should always be true.
Beverly Jackson - Tracy Shreve - Wife of Officer Nate, is a woman with a heart and head that exemplifies what every orphan hopes for in a surrogate mother.
Raul Garcia - Tyler Garcia Posey - Orphan adopted by Nate and Beverly that shows the qualities of a enlightened upbringing but also exhibits the foibles of youth.
Second - the story lines are not superficial. Whether it be Doc riding an officer's steed through Central Park to deliver a baby in a cab to trying to save a young woman's ovary over the protests of Dr. Crane and her family, the show has meaning and an underlying message of good winning over evil and right defeating wrong.
Third - This show is a must see for the entire family. It will bring tears to your eyes and hope to your heart. Just enough schmaltz to make you snicker, but more than enough meaning to make you feel good about yourself and the world you live in.
If you are fortunate enough to start with the first episode and then follow it in sequence, you will be amazed at how the story and characters mature in the process.

I wish I had found "Doc" during the first season, unfortunately I found it in the re-runs after it had been cancelled. I have the 1st season on DVD and would love to get the 2nd through 5th seasons also. If enough pople request it through 'Amazon 'and 'MBDB' the company may release them it.

exteremely helpful it was hard to find any references to Doc on the entire web .............thank you!
I miss Billy Ray Cyrus in "DOC" also.Fortunately I have them recorded.Where could we reach him to let him know that we really enjoyed the show.
I think the reason they cancelled it is because it was too nice of a show. There needs to be more of these decent family shows instead of some of the immoral, nasty shows that are on all the television stations. I cannot get PAX so had to watch the DVDs but it is a wonderful show!I totally agree. another good show is Sue Thomas F.B.Eye. I have been addicted to the both of these shows since i started watching them again.
I have been addicted to this show. i used to watch it but then we switched tocable and haven't seen it again till a month ago. i've been searching the web trying to see full length episodes, but have had no luck. So if you know a site where i can watch them then please post the sites name.~thanks ^_^
We just discovered "Doc" and then it disappeared! Will the series be back on?
